Bat For Lashes’ Natasha Khan and Beck first collaborated way back in 2010 on “Let’s Get Lost” for the Twilight: Eclipse soundtrack, but that first meeting apparently sparked a lasting relationship between the two. As Stereogum points out, the duo emerged again Friday with another team-up, this time for a short film that Khan directed, called “Under the Indigo Moon.”
In an interview with Nowness, Khan said that the two began working together about three years ago and it appears the collaboration has been relatively fruitful.
“I stayed with him for three weeks, and we jammed out and generated a lot of material,” says Khan. “He’s got loads of weird dulcimers, amazing drum machines and really obscure instruments that make wonderful sounds.”
“Under the Indigo Moon,” the first standalone taste of that material, relies on some spacey, sickening keyboard work to underpin Khan’s subdued vocal. It only lasts the for the span of the two minute film, but it manages to capture both Khan and Beck’s smoky cool in that short time frame.

It may be some time before we hear a proper follow-up to Khan’s SPIN Essential 2012 album The Haunted Man; she said in that same interview that she has “a huge desire to tell stories through film and paintings rather than just music, so Bat For Lashes is on hold.”
In the meantime, you can watch Khan’s film and hear the track above.
