On Sunday, July 20, throngs of music-hungry fans converged on Los Angeles’ Gibson Ampitheatre for Download 2008 to have their craving satiated by sets from Tapes N’ Tapes, Datarock, Ghostland Observatory, Gang of Four, and the Jesus and Mary Chain, among others. SPIN.com’s Peter Gaston sat down with indie rock’s favorite husband-and-wife duo Mates of State; watch video of Peter chatting with the pair in front of a live audience about being Ira Glass’s house band, bringing two kids on the road, and living in Connecticut among the nine-to-five set. The band even agreed to brave the spontaneity and take questions from the crowd on art and marijuana.

And make sure to stay tuned in the coming days as more festival coverage comes your way, this time from Lollapalooza.
