Blitzen Trapper Get Mixed Up for ‘Sci-Fi Kid’

When you’re young, it’s hard for your brain go to any less than a million miles an hour. Thankfully, Portland, Oregon’s Blitzen Trapper relies on this A.D.D.-like aesthetic of working outside of the box, for they often blur the musical lines between folk, funk, and utter freakiness. On “Sci-Fi Kids,” featured on the band’s latest studio effort, Wild Mountain Nation, the sextet’s refined mix of acoustic sincerity and electronic embellishments get a bit of a techno touch up. U.K.-based DJ Principal Participant brings you the “Kingswood” remix.

Borrowing exclusively from the original song’s chorus, this revamped rager opens with spaced-out synth beats, emulating a Nintendo night vision with intermittent sound effects, and an undeniable dance beat. Principal Participant’s Blitzen Trapper remix manages to transcend the band’s usual pop-driven tracks yet again, but retains a certain crucial level of their endearing heart and humor. Thanks to the magic of the mixmaster, “Sci-Fi Kid” goes on a journey through the stars to an interplanetary place where geeks gladly get their groove on.
