Brunettes to Apply ‘Cosmetics’

The playful indie-pop of New Zealand’s Jonathan Bree and Heather Mansfield, known collectively as the Brunettes, will arrive stateside Aug. 7 with their third album and Sub Pop debut Structure & Cosmetics. The new effort, a nine-track affair, was recorded piece by piece in Portland (where the Brunettes were forced to borrow guitars and amps from labelmates the Shins), their native Auckland, New Zealand, and New York City over the two years since the band inked with the seminal Seattle label. “Her Hairagami Set,” the first single from Structure & Cosmetics can be heard now via the Brunettes’ MySpace page and although details have yet-to-be announced, a U.S. tour behind the album’s release is expected this fall.
