Chavez Calls Bush ‘Devil’

The left-wing Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez called George W. Bush the devil yesterday (Sept. 20) in his remarks at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. “The devil came here yesterday. It still smells of sulfur today,” Chavez said, referring to President Bush’s speech on Tuesday (Sept. 19) in which he defended the U.S.’s Middle East policies, saying terrorists are being marginalized so that strides towards democracy can be made. Chavez had a slew of inflammatory comments to dole out regarding Bush, and he called the U.S. leader’s notion of progress a “a false democracy of the elite” and a “democracy of bombs.”

Chavez’s remarks have been particularly polarizing. Here’s what the people are saying:

“Thank you Hugo Chavez for calling a spade a spade! You certainly don’t beat around the bush when it comes to the most rotten and poisonous shrub in the world today…Thank you Chavez again for firing the first shot in this battle cry of liberation. I hope the world would wake up to the noble task of defeating this devil before its too late! Those who don’t rise up to the responsibility of defeating this devil must be his devilish supporters who should be uprooted likewise!” — Fadel Abdallah, truthdig.com

“Um…anyone believe [Venezeula] still deserves to be receiving 7 figures a day in American aid? Talk about biting the hand that feeds you…Chavez is a punk looking for attention. Plain and simple. A former death squad leader who used muscle to gain power…The world has bigger problems than Hugo Chavez. This guy should just shut up.” — coldheartedtruth.com

“Chavez is like that bratty little brother who squats on the sidelines and resents the fact that he will never be able to play with the big boys. And the U.N. claps and cheers what he says, which is par for the course. They are just as irrelevant as he is.” — Mr. Nice Guy, reason.com

“Bush is the Devil, the Anti-Christ, a despot, a tyrant, a war criminal. Bush is the greatest threat the world has faced since the days of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan. I fully agree with Chavez’s remarks, and I support his efforts to oppose Bush’s wars of aggression and imperialist expansion. Viva Chavez! Viva Venezuela! Down with the Devil Bush!” — DU, hardstarboard.blogspot.com
