The left-wing Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez called George W. Bush the devil yesterday (Sept. 20) in his remarks at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. “The devil came here yesterday. It still smells of sulfur today,” Chavez said, referring to President Bush’s speech on Tuesday (Sept. 19) in which he defended the U.S.’s Middle East policies, saying terrorists are being marginalized so that strides towards democracy can be made. Chavez had a slew of inflammatory comments to dole out regarding Bush, and he called the U.S. leader’s notion of progress a “a false democracy of the elite” and a “democracy of bombs.”
Chavez’s remarks have been particularly polarizing. Here’s what the people are saying:
