Watch David Byrne and St. Vincent Perform Meta ‘I Should Watch TV’ on TV

David Byrne and St. Vincent brought their frenzied, horn-punched “I Should Watch TV” (from last year’s collaborative LP, Love This Giant) to late-night TV once again yesterday (January 28) for an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman. “The meaning and significance of doing that song on TV is making my head go funny,” Byrne wrote in a newsletter to fans the day of the performance. “I hope we’re good.” The former Talking Head didn’t disappoint as he sniped at American consumerism and media saturation with his patented speak-yelp, receiving backup from a robust brass section. Annie Clark may be at the front of the stage with a mic and her trusty guitar, but this revelatory rant belongs to Byrne, so much so that when the music cuts out he has to tell the audience, “That’s the end.”
