Boston, MA, metal heads Converge have captured the destructive force of a wrecking ball in the song… and it rocks!
With “Axe to Fall” (download below), the title track off their latest album, out October 20 via Epitaph, this foursome smash, crash, and destroy with foot-stomping appeal: Like a dropping guillotine, a screeching guitar riff falls into a cacophony of heavy guitar distortion, swelling bass, breakneck drum fills, and the hardcore screams of frontman Jacob Bannon.
The quartet have been making music for nearly 20 years, and it shows: They have a reputation for groundbreaking musicianship — but, still, they sound anything but old. Guitarist Kurt Ballou’s deft fretwork is matched with Ben Koller’s pile-driving double-bass pedals in a sound that will pummel listeners like an anvil to the head — and that’s a good thing! Converge are dark, heavy, and don’t look be easing up anytime soon.
