Kid Cudi is now competing for the quintessential summer song of 2010.

The rapper just dropped “REV OF EV,” the first single off his upcoming album Man On The Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager (out Sept. 14) — and it’s a hyper-catchy sing-a-long that’s perfect for partying under the sweltering sun. Download it here. According to Cudi, the title is short for “Revolution Of Evolution.”

The track, produced by Plain Pat with strings by Larry Gold (Kanye West’s “Welcome to Heartbreak”), continues the sound Cudi created on his first album Man on the Moon: The End Of Day — an emphasis on bass, yet utilizing sound effects to create a blend of hip-hop and indie rock. “Wake up, I heard they found a solution,” Cudi spits over a slow grooves and electric guitar. “Where will you be for the revolution?”

Last summer, SPIN named Kid Cudi as a SPIN Breaking Out artist. When chatting with SPIN writer Thomas Golianopoulos, Cudi said “All I can do is make a phenomenal album so the hype turns to fact.” On his website, Cudi writes, “DOWNLOAD THIS GLORIOUS FUCKER NOW.” Looks he’s not too worried about hype.

Will Kid Cudi’s new “REV OF EV” be your summer jam? Download the song, then tell us in the comment section below!
