Drake Drops First Single from Album

To celebrate his OVO Festival in Toronto this weekend, Drake released what he’s calling as the first single from his next album Take Care – his follow-up to his smash debut Thank Me Later (out October 24). The song, titled “Headlines,” is available for free download at his October’s Very Own blog, or you can stream it here.

Produced by frequent collaborators Noah “Boi-1da” Samuels and Noah “40” Shebib, “Headlines” finds Drake ruminating on the ups and downs of celebrity. “I might be too strung out on compliments,” he raps. “Overdosed on confidence / Starting not to give a fuck and stop fearing the consequence.”

The production, meanwhile, matches Drake’s defiant tone with a martial beat and heavy staccato strings. He has been releasing new music from Take Care over the last few weeks and it’s shaping up to be a pretty dark album. Last month, he posted the brooding tune “Marvins Room,” which he described as “another piece of the story,” the melancholy ballad “Trust Issues,” and “Dreams Money Can Buy.”
