See Dum Dum Girls’ Gloom-Chic ‘Too True’ Album Trailer

dum dum girls, too true to be good, video

Dum Dum Girls have shared a trailer for their upcoming third album, Too True. Premiered on V Magazine and directed by Nathaniel Brown, the clip contains a 90-second snippet of the LP’s sorta-title track, “Too True to Be Good,” and also serves as a sneak preview of the song’s official music video. The visual trades heavily in Dum Dum Girls’ Phil Spector-meets-New Wave aesthetic. Frontwoman Dee Dee Penny playfully vamps for the camera, accenting her natural charisma with sunglasses, lush red lipstick, and a collared dress. Meanwhile, shots of off-color flowers and lava eruptions cut across the screen in flashes.

As SPIN noted when the “Lost Boys and Girls Club” video dropped in October, the successor to 2012’s End of Daze EP looks to follow in that collection’s mix of “gothy drama, heroin chic, and maybe even a touch of Pat Benetar.” The full video for “Too True to Be Good” will be unveiled closer to January 28, which is the day Sub Pop releases Too True. Until then, watch the trailer above.
