Eminem may be a decade removed from his most zeitgeist-defining era, but when the Detroit MC drops an album, it’s still an event. As such, in honor of Em’s eighth full-length, the just-released The Marshall Mathers LP 2, BET revived its long-gone Rap City TV series for a single-night special devoted entirely to the self-proclaimed “Rap God.” Eminem sat down with host Big Tigger to reflect on his nearly 20-year career, including the period of time when he was, as SPIN recently phrased it, “rap’s Great White Asshole.” The 41-year-old legend also discussed his struggles with addiction, the creative process behind his latest studio effort, and working with “Love Game” co-star Kendrick Lamar. To sum the whole Q&A up, though, take this oft-repeated thesis statement, straight from Eminem himself: “I just rap — that’s all I do.”
