The grrrl rock and relationship-gone-bad lyrics of Liz Phair and the acoustic, orchestral tunes of Aimee Mann exist on opposite ends of the female singer-songwriter spectrum. But on her new album, Portland, OR, songstress Mirah gracefully bridges the two!

“Education,” one of the best tracks off (a)spera (out on K Records March 10), finds Mirah, a lesbian born Mirah Yom Tov Zeitlyn, musing about receiving an education via a failing relationship: “I received an education all the while / I come to an understanding / I’ll never change / You’ll never change,” she whispers over spare drums, strummed electric guitar, and xylophone.
