From the studio to the stage, SPIN.com has closely tracked the progress of New York experimental rockers Secret Machines’ eponymous new album, set to be self-released October 14. And now, more than two years after the appearance of 2006’s Ten Silver Drops, we finally have the fruits of the trio’s labors with “Atomic Heels,” the new set’s pulsating and eerie first single, dripping in layers of sonic minutiae and — uncharacteristically — flaunting a radio-friendly 3:40 playtime.
