F’ed Up’s Damian Abraham Named Bruise Cruise Director, Celebrates With Newish Song

From what little we remember, SPIN clearly had a great time on 2011’s Bruise Cruise, the three-day Caribbean voyage that doubled as an drunken orgy of garage-rock hedonism and pasty hipster flesh. This year’s ship-off is already looking like a monster, thanks to performances by Thee Oh Sees, the Dirtbombs, the Soft Pack, Neil Hamburger, and many more. But we’re most excited that unpredictable artcore dervish Damien Abraham of Fucked Up has just been named this year’s “Cruise Director.”

Says the official Bruise Cruise paperwork: “Damian will host a variety of concerts, workshops, and special events through out the festival’s duration at sea. His band is famous for pushing musical and conceptual boundaries, and we are thrilled to have audiences share the “Fucked Up at sea experience” as they charter into international waters together this winter.” Hell, and we always thought the “fucked up at sea experience” was that Celebrity Cruise where 326 people got food poisoning!

Anyway, feel free to celebrate the cruise (mercifully via Carnival), with some sort of alternate radio session version of the Fucked Up classic “I Hate Summer,” eventually be released via 7″ given to all cruisers! Also watch this hilarious video where the Fucked Up gang participates in an especially wacky holiday gift exchange.

The Bruise Cruise sets sail February 10 and features Fucked Up, the Dirtbombs, King Khan & the Shrines, the Soft Pack, Thee Oh Sees, Quintron & Miss Pussycat, Neil Hamburger, garage rock cover band the Togas, bounce artist Vockah Redu, DJ Mr. Jonathan Toubin and 24 hour free, unlimited room service. SPIN will be there and may have photos if we can pull ourselves away from the open bar and ping-pong tables.
