Watch the Robots Win in Flying Lotus’ ‘Putty Boy Strut’ Video

Flying Lotus' "Putty Boy Strut" video

Flying Lotus has been a busy beat guru. His highly anticipated fourth LP Until the Quiet Comes is out October 2, but he’s remixed Frank Ocean, collab’ed with Earl Sweatshirt, dropped a new Gaslamp Killer album, and released a short film all within the past few weeks. Now he’s got a playful new animated video for highly bump-able on-album track “Putty Boy Strut.”

The clip is directed by Brighton’s Cyriak, and while it starts innocently enough — a bunch of cute little robots feeling the groove — it’s soon clear that the machines have something else in mind. A cascade of bass notes from Thundercat accompany the fall of the city’s first skyscraper. From there, it’s an adorable dystopian nightmare, much like 2010’s “Kill Your Co-Workers” short.
