Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins Flexes His Abs as Iggy Pop in ‘CBGB’ Film Poster

CBGB, poster

The CBGB movie scheduled to come out this year has a new poster, and it’s a chance to see how the vaunted cast looks in costume as some of the punk era’s legendary figures. Check out the full, high-resolution image here. The tagline: “50,000 Bands. One Disgusting Bathroom.”

The rest of the poster similarly suggests the film won’t take itself too seriously. “Lick my stomach,” proclaims a word bubble over Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who’s shirtless as Iggy Pop. Alan Rickman, also known as Severus Snape from Harry Potter and Hans Gruber from Die Hard, has the lead role as club founder Hilly Kristal: His word bubble asks, “Country, bluegrass, and blues?” Swedish actress Malin Akerman, as Blondie’s Debby Harry, muses, “I wish I had invented sex…” — thereby inventing Trey Songz.

Other actors in the post play Joey Ramone, Patti Smith, and Rocket From the Crypt’s Cheetah Crome, among others. As HitFix notes, expect to see Richard Helll, David Byrne, and Tom Verlaine in the movie, though they won’t be playing themselves. Though the film was mostly shot in Savannah, Georgia, the set includes huge parts of the famed and influential New York City venue, which shut its doors in 2006 to make way for a John Varvatos boutique.

According to Rolling Stone, the movie recounts the tale of how Kristal opened his doors to bands like the Ramones, the Patti Smith Group, and Talking Heads. Director Randy Miller told RS“It is a story of Hilly and how he basically was the catalyst for this gigantic, sea-changing music. And he didn’t set out to do that initially, but he became sort of the godfather of punk and underground rock.” So wait until it’s out to form an opinion on it, you jaded punks.
