HEAR IT: Wavves and Best Coast’s Hot New Songs

Wavves’s Nathan Williams and Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino are gearing up for a SPIN co-sponsored winter tour kicking off on January 21 and the duo are offering a special incentive for those who come out to the show: a limited-edition split 7″ featuring two new songs. But for those who can’t make any of the dates, the two have also released the tracks on an iTunes digital sampler titled Summer is Forever. Head here to pick it up.

Both tracks show Wavves and Best Coast doing what they do best: bright, shambling indie-rock with hooks that’ll stick like bubblegum to the soles of your Converse. Wavves’ “Stained Glass (Won’t You Let Me Into Your Heart)” is a two-minute blast of awesomely deranged psychedelia, with a chorus that weirdly evokes the theme song to Three’s Company. Best Coast’s “When You Wake Up” is a love-sick, guitar-powered ballad that sounds like a punk rock version of a Phil Spector tune.

Wavves and Best Coast kick off their tour on January 21 in San Diego; noise rockers No Joy will be opening. SPIN will be giving away pairs of tickets on Twitter for the San Diego, Austin, D.C., Philadelphia, and Boston dates. Starting next week, check back to our Twitter to enter the contest.
