Hot New Band (of Older Dudes): Obits

With two members who blazed trails in seminal ’90s bands like Hot Snakes, Drive Like Jehu, and Edsel, it’s no surprise that Brooklyn-based quartet Obits are poised to slay from the get-go. Available for download below, “Pine On,” a sneak peek from the band’s full-length debut, I Blame You (out March 24 on Sub Pop), is a wicked, air-tight slice of nostalgic but urgent punk goodness.

After signing Obits last year, Sub Pop wasted no time in getting the band in front of discerning audiences, slotting them into the lineup for the label’s massive 20th anniversary celebration last summer in Seattle, right alongside well-established acts like Fleet Foxes, Iron & Wine, the Vaselines, and Wolf Parade.

Obits kick off a U.S. tour in Chapel Hill, N.C., on March 16. Visit the band’s Sub Pop page for full details.
