Watch the Julie Ruin’s Nostalgic ‘Goodnight, Goodbye’ Video

Julie Ruin, "Goodnight, Goodbye," video, Kathleen Hanna

“Held ourselves together with tape and twine,” Kathleen Hanna sings on the Julie Ruin’s “Goodnight, Goodbye.” From last year’s Run Fast, the song reminisces bittersweetly on younger days, punker tours. Life on the road can’t be a whole lot easier when you’re a little bit older and used to better conditions, and the throwback grain of the Super 8-shot video by Silly Cinnamon underscores that fact. Rather than just an analog Instagram-filter equivalent, the use of the old technology emphasizes that the footage of Hanna and her band onstage and between shows here could almost be from any era. Well, any era where tape and twine exist.
