Kanye West has advanced in such leaps and bounds since we first met him, and become such a larger-than-life figure along the way, that it’s difficult to remember the man in the early aughts — a rising name in production with the occasional guest verse as a mere bonus. As noted in the opening moments of his staggering new album Yeezus, that dark and balmy time known as Yeezy Season is fully upon us.

Which is why it’s fun to travel back to simpler times every so often. Thanks to Fake Shore Drive, we can do just that via “Candy,” a song credited to Myleka with a beat and verse courtesy of the Louis Vuitton Don himself. The low-key, string-assisted production was apparently only leased at the time and wound up finding a permanent home with Trina on her Ludacris-featuring 2002 single “B R Right.”

Of course, West’s debut LP The College Dropout wasn’t released until 2004, so this little gem precedes his solo career entirely. The Roc is in the building:
