The nominees for the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards were announced Tuesday, and — surprise! — it turns out America is totally gaga for Lady Gaga!
The pop radio queen scored 13 nods in total, setting a record in the award show’s 27-year history. And she didn’t stop there: Gaga is also the first artists to have two videos —“Telephone” and “Bad Romance” — nominated for Video of the Year!
Eminem follows Gaga with eight nods — including Video of the Year and Best Male Video — for his “Not Afraid” clip. Katy Perry “California Gurls”), Ke$ha (“Tik Tok”), and Taylor Swift (“Fifteen”) received nods in the Best Female Video category, while Paramore (“Ignorance”), MGMT (“Flash Delirium”), 30 Seconds to Mars (“Kings and Queens”), Florence & the Machine (“Dog Days are Over”), and MUSE (“Uprising”) will all vie for Best Rock Video. Elsewhere, newcomers Nicki Minaj, B.o.B., and Justin Bieber also scored noms.

Gaga addressed the news in a statement to MTV: “I’m so honored for all the little monsters and self-professed freaks of the universe to have more VMA nominations in a single year than any artist in MTV history…Ironically, I’m even more proud it’s an unlucky number: 13.”
Eminem, meanwhile, was slightly less humbled. “Apparently, MTV doesn’t care that I have two massive stadium shows on the other side of the country the day after the VMAs,” he said, referring to Yankee Stadium gigs with Jay-Z on September 13 and 14. “F me, right?I mean, I’ll be there, but don’t expect me to be nice about it.”
The awards show will broadcast live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on September 12.
