Lady GaGa Impresses in Seattle!

“I’m such a lucky bitch,” Lady GaGa declared as she gazed down at the audience during her sold-out show at Seattle’s Showbox Theater Monday night. Five nights into her first nationwide headlining tour, the platinum blonde singer proved that her success isn’t a fluke.

The 22-year-old New York native (born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta), took the 1,100-capacity venue’s stage with DJ Space Cowboy and three male dancers, following a set from opening band White Tie Affair. Clad in a revealing “oh-no-she-didn’t” outfit that consisted of an angular black tutu, sunglasses, and a glowing scepter, she performed an hour-long set that pulled almost entirely from her 2008 debut album, The Fame.

She began with danceable tracks like the stalker anthem “Paparazzi” and her ode to excess “Beautiful, Dirty, Rich.” She channeled her inner Andy Warhol by presenting a wacky video installation between songs and by rattling off several self-indulgent comments: “Some say Lady GaGa is a lie, and they’re right,” she said. “I am a lie, and every day I kill to make it true.”

Halfway through her set, the singer coyly announced, “I’m going to go backstage and take my clothes off.” She soon emerged wearing a flesh-colored leotard and showed off her vocal chops with an intimate rendition of her hit “Poker Face” that used only solo piano. “And baby when it’s love, if it’s not rough it’s not fun / I’ll get him hot, I’ll show him what I got,” she sang. Her faux nude outfit matched the suggestive lyrics, and the lone piano created a range of emotions well beyond the singer’s sexy surface.

During “Space Love,” Lady GaGa serenaded a glowing male mannequin: “I wanna fuck you as hard as I can.” Predictably, young girls shrieked… very, very loudly.

For the encore, Lady GaGa donned another pants-less outfit and charged through a synth-heavy version of “Boys Boys Boys,” a cheesy yet infectious pop response to Mötley Crüe’s “Girls Girls Girls.”

Before leaving the stage, Lady GaGa spoke to her fans and referenced several lyrics from defunct British acid house band the KLF. The mention flew over the heads of the under-21 crowd. But judging by the number of girls wearing GaGa-like hair-bows and sunglasses, those folks are already well in her camp.
