Watch Soul Legend Lee Fields’ Surreal ‘Faithful Man’ Clip

Lee Fields 'Faithful Man' Video

Lee Fields is that rare obscure artist from soul’s rich past who’s mounting a comeback not by way of some DJ’s dusty vinyl collection, but in the flesh. The North Carolina native toured with Kool and the Gang in the late ’60s and eventually earned himself the nickname Little JB on account of his James Brown-like onstage vim. He released a brand new album earlier this year dubbed Faithful Man, and we’re pleased to share the video for the song of the same name.

This slick slab of Memphis-style soul is well matched by the Tiombe Lockhart-directed clip, which finds Fields taking a seat at a barroom piano in order to unspool a tale of temptation. “I’ve always been a faithful man,” he howls handsomely before revealing the hook: “Until you came along.” There’s a surreality at play here helped along by the fantastic shots of Fields sporting a white sequined suit, singing heartache to the heavens. Naturally, he’s credited as “The One and Only.” Fields and his band the Expressions are wrapping up a North American tour in October, then heading overseas. Check the dates to see if history’s coming to a town near you.
