MTV EMAs 2014 Winners List: One Direction, Katy Perry, and Ariana Grande Clean Up

charli xcx, mtv, ema, european music awards

At last night’s MTV Europe Music Awards, One Direction took home three trophies while Ariana Grande, 5 Seconds of Summer, and Katy Perry trailed closely with two awards each. Hosted by Nicki Minaj, who won the Best Hip Hop award, the EMAs also rewarded Calvin Harris (Best Electronic) and Ozzy Osbourne himself (Global Icon). Linkin Park won Best Rock act (maybe they’re bigger in Europe than they are here?) and somehow, in 2014, Justin Bieber was crowned Best Male.

Also as part of last night’s awards, Minaj performed a three-song medley that kicked off with her hit 2010 single “Super Bass,” followed by the premiere of an emotional new song rumored to be titled “Bed of Lies,” whcih preceded the ass-shaking closer, “Anaconda.” Other highlights included Charli XCX’s medley of “Boom Clap” and “Break the Rules,” as well as U2’s impassioned live version of “Every Breaking Wave.” Watch those and check out the entire MTV EMAs winners list below. All winners are in bold.
