Mumford, Sharpe, Old Crow Cover Guthrie Live

Last month, roots rock’s biggest new stars Mumford & Sons toured via railroad with Old Crow Medicine Show and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. It was one of the most unconventional treks in years — a modern-day version of the Dead’s legendary Festival Express jaunt in the ’70s — and each gig was capped off with raucous collaborative performance. VH1 caught footage from the group’s Austin, TX show, where they paid tribute to folk icon Woody Guthrie for a cover of his classic “This Train Is Bound for Glory.” Watch it here.

“All right, get on board, y’all — let’s get on down to New Orleans,” Old Crow’s Ketch Secor commands at the top. And they’re off, delivering a boot-stomping, party-starting rendition of “Train” packed with banjos, harmonicas, acoustic six-strings, and swaggering N’awlins-style brass. Guthrie would’ve been proud.
