The Nipple Returns

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) said today that it will go ahead with plans to fine 20 CBS TV stations $550,000 for the infamous Super Bowl halftime show wardrobe malfunction in 2004 in which Justin Timberlake tore off a part of Janet Jackson’s outfit, revealing her breast. The FCC’s refusal to drop the fine means a court battle between the Commission and CBS may be forthcoming, including, of course, a long debate on the FCC’s crackdown on indecent content broadcast on radio and TV. In a statement, the agency claimed that CBS is “out of touch with the standards of the American people.” CBS says the broadcast wasn’t “legally indecent.”
