Pink Notches More Top 10 Hits Than Lady Gaga, Katy Perry

Clown Pink all you want, Internet, but she’s been owning the charts since having a Geocities page was your greatest achievement. This week the singer notched her 12th Top 10 Hot 100 hit in as many years, seating her in third place for female artists with the most Top 10 singles since 2000. That means she now has more Top 10s since 2000 than Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, who are both tied with 11 each (via Idolator).

Billboard reports that Pink’s new hook-happy single “Blow Me (One Last Kiss),” which comes ahead of her sixth studio effort The Truth About Love (out September 18), rocketed up this week’s chart, which measures singles through a combination of weekly radio play and sales — it went from No. 58 last week to No. 9. She’s also gaining on Beyoncé, who’s racked up 14 since 2000, but still has quite long way to go before beating the first-place winner, Rihanna, whose ubiquity on practically every radio station in the galaxy has earned her 22 Hot 100 Top 10 singles.

Be aware, though, that these stats only count the years since Pink’s first top-10 single, “There You Go,” debuted at No. 7 in 2000. Leann Rimes actually holds the record for a single song being in the Top 10 for the most weeks, with 1997’s “How Do I Live” (it was up there for 32), with Santana’s 1999 hit “Smooth” (30 weeks) and LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” (29) right behind her. And Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men still hold the record for the most weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 with 1995 hit “One Sweet Day” (16 weeks). Nevertheless, Rimes has only had the one Top 10 single, LMFAO only two (that and “Sexy and I Know It”), and Santana six (Pink’s record is for a female charting artist, anyway). Mariah had so many No. 1 singles on the Hot 100 before Pink rolled into town that she dropped an album full of them in 1998, but she’s only had four since 2000.

Plus, considering how much has changed in radio and the music industry overall in the past 12 years alone, that the women whose records Pink just broke didn’t have to simultaneously be raising a kid, her victory is impressive (especially since all of those artists, with the exception of LMFAO, released many an album before 2000, when Pink dropped her first set, Can’t Take Me Home, via LaFace Records). We’d make a Pink Friday joke, but Nicki Minaj has only racked up two Top 10 singles since her debut (that’s only one more than Carly Rae Jepsen).
