POTUS Playlist: Barack Obama Drops a Sweet Spotify Mix

It’s not like we’re very surprised, but President Obama, who has already gone down in history as the first candidate to have waged a truly effective social media-based presidential campaign, is at it again: Barack has dropped a 27-track "Campaign Playlist" via Spotify and his Facebook page (via the Washington Post). The mix includes a wide array of cuts that basically represent the president’s entire constituency — yes, even the country fans. And yes, even the REO Speedwagon fans. Included: "Different People" (No Doubt), "I Got You" (Wilco), "The Weight" (Aretha Franklin), "Stand Up" (Sugarland), and, well, obviously, "Let’s Stay Together" (Al Green).

Part of us wants to believe that POTUS really does bump Arcade Fire’s "We Used to Wait," say, when he’s on the treadmill in the morning, or sneak a discreet earbud rocking U2’s "Even Better Than the Real Thing" (off Spin’s No. 1 Album of the Past 25 Years, Achtung Baby) into his afternoon advisory meetings. but then there are tracks like "Love You I Do," as performed by Jennifer Hudson in the movie version of Dreamgirls, that are uncomfortably fawning; With lyrics like "Never met a man / quite like you / doing all you can / making my dreams come true," a playlist like this could get pretty dangerous for Barry’s ego. Guess we’ll just have to chalk this one up to his social campaign managers working their incredibly sneaky "cool hip things that 20-somethings do" tactics and thank our lucky stars Ron Paul’s staff didn’t figure something like this out first.

On the bright side, we’re guessing that none of these artists are going to call foul like so many have done to the GOP candidates.
