Rage Plot Summer Show, Gaga Tops Charts + More

  • After playing a benefit show for Sound Strike and doing a short tour of South America last year, Rage Against the Machine are booked to play a show on July 30 in Los Angeles with Rise Against and Muse, according to the Coachella Facebook page. The fest organizers, Goldenvoice, posted a “Save the Date,” and said that more bands would be announced to the bill. There has been plenty of online chatter that the band will tour more extensively this summer, too, according to an interview frontman Zack de la Rocha gave last year, where he indicated the band would tour the “northern hemisphere” and release a new album this summer.

  • Twenty four hours after the rush release of “Judas,” Lady Gaga‘s second single from Born This Way has topped the iTunes charts in twelve countries. The track is also expected to land at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart this week. [Gaga Daily]

  • U2‘s troubled Spider-Man musical will go dark during its preview performances for four weeks, as producers revamp the show. The Edge and Bono are reportedly writing two new songs for the musical, which is now set to open on June 14. [New York Daily News]

  • Jack White has been awarded Nashville’s inaugural Music City Ambassador Award. The musician was given the honor for bringing “international recognition” to the city, thanks to his launching of his Third Man record store. “Every day we’re excited to be in a city that truly fosters local music and businesses and new ideas,” White said in a statement.

  • Canadian indie-rock group the Stills have announced they are splitting up after 11 years together. “Now that the book closes, we can look on the journey and see it as one trip, from beginning to end; one complete and perfectly imperfect universe,” they said in a statement. Since forming in 2000, the Stills released three studio albums, including their last LP Oceans Will Rise in 2008.

  • Check out a new video from New York duo Cults for their song “Abducted.” The clip is an groovy ’60s throwback that takes footage from director Pierre Koralnik’s 1967 movie Anna. Cults’ self-titled debut, set to be released via Lily Allen’s In the Name Of imprint, via Columbia Records, hits stores on June 7.
