The hottest place in the freezing city of St. Louis, MO last night was the Scottrade Center, where for three hours, showgoers were warmed by the funky tunes of both Gnarls Barkley and Red Hot Chili Peppers. It was the latter band that grooved through a less-than-crazy set, one highlighting their mellower material. They opened and closed the two-hour performance with instrumental jams, and they played recent hits like "Dani California" alongside several covers. While the Chili Peppers have been known to serenade showgoers with their seemingly oddball renditions of songs from the likes of the Shirelles and Elton John (read more), last night they covered tracks more firmly implanted in the annals of rock, including the Stooges' "I Wanna Be Your Dog" and the Clash's "London Calling," which segued into the band's own "Right On Time."
