Ryan Adams’ 7-Inch ‘No Shadow’ Will Co-Star Johnny Depp

Ryan Adams, Johnny Depp

Just a few short months after covering Danzig together onstage in London, Ryan Adams and Johnny Depp will collaborate again, this time on two songs from the former’s upcoming No Shadow 7-inch. Called “No Shadow” and “It’s In My Head,” the Adams/Depp tracks will be part of the next installment in the music Renaissance man’s Pax-Am singles series.

Explaining how the collaboration came about on the Pax-Am website, Adams said:

“Johnny came rumbling into [Adams’ PaxAm Studios] one night with this riff and an idea of what it was about — a few hours later and one take on a 2 inch 24 track tape machine later we had No Shadow… typed up on my manual typewriter and born and delivered from a simple riff we found on his i phone. Johnny is a real songwriter and one of the deepest guitar players out there. Thats us singing and playing and playing all the parts ourselves with just our pal Marshal Vore on drums.

The B side is from the first night we met where all we did was play and didn’t say a word. This was the third thing we ever played together and there was no discussion. True rock and roll moments, as they should be, unfussy and delivered with all the heart and soul we had that night. ”

Oh, and No Shadow‘s third track is “about being stoned in the 7-11 parking lot across from Pax.” Because why not?

Finally, in case you’re late on your holiday purchases this year, please know that Adams is also selling a series of ugly Christmas sweaters (find them at his touring merch table) and ornaments. Because, again, why not? Pre-order No Shadow here, and grab it when it drops on January 13.
