Ryan Adams Plans to Quit Music

Anyone familiar with alt-country bad boy Ryan Adams knows that he’s prone to go a little crazy on the web — after all, he did give away eleven albums in 2006. His latest web madness? A blog post in which he says he’s done making music — at least for the forseeable future.

“I am ready for quieter times,” Ryan writes on his official website, citing health issues related to his hearing as his main reason for bowing out of the spotlight. Of his stint with backing band the Cardinals he adds: “I am grateful for the time we have had and maybe someday we will have more stories to tell together.”

Adams plans to begin his hiatus following the conclusion of his current tour with the Cardinals in support of their SPIN-approved album Cardinology. But Adams will be busy with another art form in 2009: His collection of poetry, Infinity Blues, is set to hit stores in April, and according to Adams, there are “brand new books coming (two of em’ not counting that one already printed).”

Of course, being the slightly crazy rocker that he is, Adams says that he could return to music eventually: “Maybe I will work my way back into some kind of music situation but this is the time for me to step back now.”
