Snoop Dogg Is Recording a Reggae Album with Diplo

Diplo is a fan of everything, apparently. In a recent interview with MTV, the DJ-slash-producer gushed about the approximately seven billion projects he’s currently working on, including — yes — Snoop Dogg’s upcoming reggae album.

“It’s like Snoop Dogg and Major Lazer together,” Diplo said of the new material, which he offhandedly announced via his Facebook page earlier this month, accompanied by a photo of himself and Snoop in a (very, very smoke-filled) studio. “It’s all reggae and he’s singing and he’s doing a fucking awesome job. I never knew it, but he had his heart in every song. … We’re going to get back into the production of it next month.”

The 18-track record, which hasn’t officially been announced yet, will be the first the Philly-native producer has executive produced, he said, adding, “Snoop Dogg is an icon, man; he’s bigger than the music.”

Diplo also gushed about the additional Usher tracks he worked on for the R&B singer’s upcoming album (following the volcanically sexy “Climax” track they dropped via SoundCloud on Valentine’s Day), as well as the track his Major Lazer project worked on for that long-awaited No Doubt album we really, really hope the world will finally hear (finally) in 2012.
