The Soundtrack of Our Lives Announce Farewell Tour

Swedish psych-rock pros the Soundtrack of Our Lives have announced that their sixth record Throw It To The Universe was their last. Following a string of goodbye shows in Sweden and the U.K., they’ll be putting an end to their 17-year career.

“My idea when we started this band was that we were gonna peak around 2012,” frontman Ebbot Lundberg said in a statement. “Which suddenly is pretty soon!”

Though they formed in 1995 (two years after members’ former influential punk band Union Carbide Productions broke up), T.S.O.O.L. came to the attention of U.S. audiences during the Swedish invasion of the early ’00s. Their third record Behind the Music arrived Stateside in 2002, a year after it was released in their home country, and picked up a nomination for a Best Alternative Album Grammy. (The group was defeated by Coldplay’s A Rush of Blood to the Head).

How good was Behind the Music? Pretty fantastic. In an extremely positive review, SPIN’s Jon Dolan called the band “The great left-field discovery of the Hives boomlet,” calling writing that the album provided a “near-perfect vision of futures past.”
