Hear Spiritualized’s Space-Sounds Epic ‘Always Forgetting With You (the Bridge Song)’

spiritualized, space project, compilation

Last month, Youth Lagoon unleashed “Worms,” an experimental head-trip that’s destined to appear on Space Project, an upcoming Lefse Records compilation featuring songs that use actual outer-space sounds recorded by the Voyager 1 and 2 space probes launched by NASA in 1977. Due April 19 (this year’s Record Store Day), the 14-track set also includes songs by Beach House, Mutual Benefit, Porcelain Raft, and Spiritualized, who have now shared their Space Project contribution.

Titled “Always Forgetting With You (the Bridge Song),” the six-minute track is a ’50s-style swooner credited to Spiritualized “Mississippi Space Program.” Frontman J. Spaceman rattles off heart-melting promise after heart-melting promise over sparkling strums. “If you want a rocket ship, I would be a rocket ship for you,” he sings. “If you’ll be my lonely girl, I will be a lonely boy for you.”

Every song on Space Project is supposedly based on a planet or moon in the solar system. “Always Forgetting With You” was apparently inspired by Neptune, and that may very well be true, but judging from the stream below, Spaceman is powered by the simple, blind devotion of starry-eyed love.
