Strokes Work on New Music, Death Cab Tour + More

  • One month after releasing Angles, the Strokes are already back in the studio working on their fifth record — or at least bassist Nikolai Fraiture has begun. “Super excited to go to the studio today and work on some new ideas!”he posted on Twitter, before clarifying: “For the Strokes, of course!”

  • Death Cab for Cutie have announced a 34-date North American Summer tour with Atlantic Records label mates Frightened Rabbit. The trek kicks off on May 18 in Toronto, ON. Following a string of European dates, the tour will pick up again on July 27 in Columbus, OH and wrap up on August 23 in Morrison, CO. Tickets go on sale to the general public starting May 6.   • U2 drummer Larry Mullen Jr. will make his acting debut alongside Donald Sutherland in a movie titled Man on the Train. Mullen Jr. plays a “mysterious stranger who arrives in a small town to rob the local bank.” The movie will premiere next month at the Cannes Film Festival. [BBC]

  • Josh Homme and Alain Johannes have been tapped to do the theme song for Adult Swim’s Aqua Unit Patrol Squad One. Hear the theme over at Some Kind of Awesome. Homme is also contributing music to an upcoming episode of Anthony Bourdain‘s Travel Channel show, No Reservations.

  • Wavves will release a new EP this summer that features collaborations with Best Coast and Fucked Up, plus “one more collab shit will b bonkers,” frontman Nathan Williams posted in a series of tweets. Williams also says one track “sounds like the Rentals” and that he will be filming a video for each song. [Pitchfork]

  • Guitar gods Thurston Moore and Kurt Vile will hit the road for a tour this summer. The pair will kick off the trek on July 18 in Minneapolis, MN; it wraps up on July 30 in San Diego, CA. Moore will release his fourth solo album Demolished Thoughts on May 24. [Matador Records]
