Lots of musicians tweet — but all that Twitters is not gold.

That’s why you’ll want to check out SPIN.com every Friday to see whose tweets we’re reading this week — then update your TweetDeck! (Obligatory Self-Promotion: …while you’re at it, be sure to follow @SPINmagazine!)

This week’s winners:

  • The Mountain Goats’ Jon Wurster
    @jonwurster

    Why You Should Follow: Wurster — the former Superchunk drummer who performs with the Mountain Goats and writes for TV shows like Monk and Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! — is one of Twitter’s funniest and most prolific members. Whether he’s tweeting about boycotting the Super Bowl (“They wouldn’t publish my erotic football fiction in the official program”), not doing laundry (“Get ready to smell my gig shirt, Minneapolis. It hasn’t been washed since 2009”), or what gets him out of bed in the morning (“I should get up. That rack of Tastykakes down at WaWa isn’t going to eat itself”), his tweets are self-deprecating and hilarious. Follow him as he pieces together his childhood (“Turns out the house I grew up in was built upon a Viking burial ground. This explains the flying horn hats”), ponders old Hollywood tales (“Any truth to the rumor that Charlton Heston did lines off the tablets when they were shooting The Ten Commandments?”), and strives to achieve that “I was born to rock but also to party” look.

    Best Tweet of the Week: “Need to fall asleep between midnight and 12:10 am because that’s when the monsters take their smoke break.”

  • Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig
    @arzE

    Why You Should Follow: Vampire Weekend’s latest album, Contra, debuted in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart when it dropped on January 12, making the Ivy League quartet one of the nation’s highest selling and most popular acts. Lead singer and guitarist Ezra Koenig hasn’t let it go to his head. He still appreciates the simple things in life (“love feeling that open window in an overheated NYC apt in winter faux-tropical breeze”), reads articles written about him and his band, and gets excited about appearing on late-night talk shows and seeing people in Vampire Weekend T-shirts. Expect lots of New Jersey-centric tweets (“Philip Roth, Springsteen, Sopranos, Jersey Shore – the saga continues! genuinely proud of my home state”) and discussion about whether or not it’s fair for someone to assume that he’s a WASP based on his taste in T-shirts (for the record, he’s Jewish). Bonus points: If you tweet at him, there’s a good chance he’ll tweet back!

    Best Tweet of the Week: “there’s party everywhere.”

  • Ladyhawke
    @ladyhawkeforyou

    Why You Should Follow:This retro-pop singer is one of Mark Hoppus’ favorite new musicians and was handpicked by gossip blogger Perez Hilton to co-headline his tour with fellow breakout act Ida Maria. Ladyhawke’s music has been compared to Peaches and Cyndi Lauper — and her tweets ain’t bad, either. When she’s not documenting her time on the road, she’s posting videos of Sesame Street songs, tweeting about playing air hockey, and musing about her frequent bouts of sleep-walking and insomnia (“I actually was sleepless in Seattle”). Look for bizarre stories (“Was walking down the street in salt lake and ten elephants just crossed the street in front of me. WTF”), discussion of veganism, and serious nerd moments (“I’m downloading new haircuts for my Sims 3 characters at the moment. They really need to branch out with their hairstyles”).

    Best Tweet of the Week: “I love avocado on toast!”
