Terrific Twitter Trio of the Week

100812-twitter.jpg

Lots of musicians tweet — but all that Twitters is not gold.

That’s why you’ll want to check out SPIN.com every Friday to see whose tweets we’re reading this week – then update your TweetDeck! (Obligatory Self-Promotion: …while you’re at it, be sure to follow @SPINmagazine!)

  • Tegan and Sara
    @teganandsara

    Why You Should Follow: Canadian rocker twins Tegan and Sara have had quite the busy summer. In addition to opening for Paramore on the 2010 Honda Civic Tour, they performed at Lilith Fair during the tour’s stop in Boston, teamed up with comedienne Margaret Cho to record a song for her upcoming parody album, Cho-Dependent, and released a video for their song “Northshore,” off their most recent album, Sainthood. Now they’re getting ready to release a new vinyl box set, which includes LPs of their last five albums, plus an additional LP with nine unreleased demo tracks called Home Recordings. The box set doesn’t hit stores until Aug. 31, but Tegan and Sara are streaming Home Recordings here today-and while it streams, Tegan will be on Twitter, answering fans’ questions and responding to their comments and thoughts! So go ahead and tweet what you think-you just might hear back from her!

    Best Tweet of the Week: “Remember when Sara’s guitar strap broke before the 1st note of the 1st song tonight in Cleveland? But remember how she kept playing? #rock”

  • Belle & Sebastian
    @bellesglasgow

    Why You Should Follow: These indie legends put the “twee” in tweeting. Their whimsical updates about sipping tea in Singapore, wasting time in Oslo, and floating on a ship named Cindy somewhere in Finland seem like they could be lyrics on the band’s upcoming album, Belle & Sebastian Write About Love. Expect lots of British-isms (past tweets have made reference to “trolleydashing” and eating “mini-Marmites” for “brekkie”), as well as Twitpics of terrace parties and impossibly long and boring flights. They often share interesting stories from their 14 years in the music biz (“Reminiscences about the last time we were at fuji; and a toast to Mitch Mitchell, who stole a bottle of jack Daniels from our wee room”) and occasionally call on fans for help (“Is anyone planning to come to our show in Arezzo tonight? Anyone who could lend bob some bongo drums? DM us!”), so make sure you follow them closely!

    Best Tweet of the Week: “Big spenders? 2 pints and home to bed! How can a pint of tiger – brewed in Singapore – cost twice as much as it does in Glasgow??? Crazy…”

  • MTV’s TJ Gabi Gregg
    @MTVTJ

    Why You Should Follow: In a televised special on Sunday night, thousands of voters picked Gabi Gregg to be MTV’s first-ever TJ (that’s short for “Twitter jockey”), landing the 23-year-old fashion blogger a corner office and a $100,000 salary. Pretty sweet deal, huh? As the voice of MTV on Twitter, Gabi’s job is to tweet backstage at events (like the upcoming 2010 Video Music Awards) and communicate directly with fans on behalf of the company. Using the Roots’ Questlove (@questlove) as her Twitter role model, she seems determined to connect with her followers, responding to nearly all of their tweets and striking up discussion wherever she can. Though she still maintains her fashion blog, Young, Fat & Fabulous, she has a love for music, too-so keep an eye on her tweets for breaking music news and Twitpics of the big-name artists who stop by the MTV studios!

    Best Tweet of the Week: This picture of Gabi hanging out with Usher on one of her first days on the job.
