Tough Age’s forté is scuzz-pop, another term for the sort of chunky garage-punk that comes coated in swathes of sugary hooks. On November 12, the Vancouver foursome — singer-guitarist Jarrett K., guitarist Penny Clark, bassist Lauren Smith, and drummer Chris Martell — will let their self-titled debut album loose on the world. Produced by Mint Records labelmate Jay Arner, the upcoming LP features lovestruck doo-wop (“The Heart of Juliet Jones”), noodling guitar-jangle (“Seahorse”), and nihilistic navel-gazing (“I Waste Too Much Time on Myself”).
