Hear Songs From the Tupac Musical, ‘Holler If Ya Hear Me’

Tupac Shakur Musical Songs Stream Holler If Ya Hear Me Saul Williams

You can now hear three remade 2Pac songs from the Tupac Shakur-inspired musical, Holler If Ya Here Me. As previously reported, the Broadway production does not aim to tell the story of the iconic rapper’s life and death, but rather to paint its own live-action moving picture via the themes expressed in the man’s work. Rapper/poet/actor/singer/author Saul Williams is cast in the lead roll and leant his versatile voice to the recordings below, shared today by BuzzFeed.

The preview includes: the titular track, “Holler If Ya Hear Me,” which maintains some of that raw 1993 style in Williams’ delivery, if not the very MIDI-sounding production; a hybrid spoken word/rap version of “California Love” which features an actual chorus of (non-actual) “hoochies screamin'”; and the sweetly thoughtful posthumous song, “Unconditional Love,” which here gets a soft-focus treatment worthy of a Hallmark store PA. Interesting to say the least.

Previews for Kenny Leon’s Holler If Ya Hear Me begin June 2 at the Palace Theatre.
