See Tyler, the Creator Get Cozy With Arsenio Hall in Charming Interview

Tyler, the Creator plopped himself on the couch at The Arsenio Hall Show on November 7 to “explain pretty much everything,” according to the talk-show’s website. Talking with Arsenio, the Odd Future ringleader shared his thoughts on a range of topics, including his straight-edge lifestyle (“Some things aren’t for everyone”); his lyrical content (“Frank [Ocean] is gay, and I use that word [‘faggot’] all the time — he doesn’t care, because he knows me, he knows when I say that word I’m not thinking of someone’s sexual orientation”); and President Obama (“He’s an N-word that figured it out”). The Wolfman also elaborated on his very public criticisms of the YouTube Music Awards, at which he performed on November 3.

“YouTube, the way that it’s set up, it gives anyone who’s creative a platform to showcase their work to people,” the Creator said. “And for a website like YouTube to have an award show, you would think they would use that platform to give creative people who aren’t on the Top 20 Billboard [chart], or that everyone doesn’t know — that’s not popular — a chance to actually get recognition for being creative and innovative, but instead they did the same thing that the VMAs or the Billboard Pop Awards did with the Katy Perrys and the Justin Biebers.”

Judging from the steady waves of applause he received, the audience seemed to think of Tyler as a thoughtful, humble young dude — even when he was laid out on the couch, shoes digging into Arsenio’s couch cushions (word to Chappelle). Tyler also used the TV appearance to plug the second annual OFWGKTA Carnival, happening on November 9 in the Los Angeles, at the L.A. Coliseum. The 22-year-old MC also threw a shout-out to Quincy Jones, who brought out his all-girl-group Blush, who performed sleaze’n’grind tune “Ain’t Nobody Got Time for That.” Watch Tyler above, and catch Blush below, if you’ve got time for that.
