Fields

Who? Hailing from England by way of Iceland, Fields are fronted by Nick Peill (guitar/vocals), Thorunn Antonia (keyboard/vocals), Jamie Putnam (guitar), Matty Derham (bass), and Henry Spencer (drums). Fresh off an appearance at this year’s Coachella, Fields recently issued their long-awaited studio effort, Everything Last Winter, via Atlantic.

What’s the Deal? Produced by seasoned rock veteran Michael Beinhorn (Hole, Marilyn Manson, Red Hot Chili Peppers) and recorded in Dublin, Everything Last Winter ranges from ’70s folk rock a la CSNY (“Schoolbooks,” “Song for the Fields”) to a lush wall of sound reminiscent of classic shoegazing (“The Death”). With haunting lyrics — “These empty words won’t keep us alive-choke them down” — Fields display a swagger that allows them to rock arenas with immense bravado. They’ve already shared the stage with the likes of Bloc Party, Snow Patrol, and Wolfmother.

Fun Fact: Before his bass playing days with Fields, Matty Derham was found running with scissors as a stylist to some of indie rock’s finest, including Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, and Kylie Minogue. DAMON SGRIGNOLI
