Watch Octopus Project Live!

Often an electronic-tinged performance loses oomph when translated from its characteristically shadowy, enclosed venue environs to a massive, open-air venue — especially sans vocals. But Austin, TX-based quartet Octopus Project wasted no time in cranking out the blips, bleeps, and scathing guitar slashes, filling Brooklyn’s empty McCarren Park Pool with a fuzzy, jagged sonic and subsequently an enthused sea of dancers.

Stopping in for a brief interview, in which the challenges of performing in daylight, their forthcoming record (Hello Avalanche, out in Oct.) and fall tour are all discussed, Octopus Project take the stage and SPIN.com was exclusively on hand to document the ensuing dance fury behind tunes like “Tuxedo Hat” and “Hello, Avalanche,” and the unprecedented levels of bliss slapped across the faces of concertgoers. Scroll down and see for yourself — as keyboardist Yvonne Lambert states on camera, “everything we do is in the name of fun.”

Check back throughout the summer for live performances from Illinois, Annuals, Band of Horses, Blonde Redhead, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, and more from the Pool Parties! Exclusively on SPIN.com!
