Dengue Fever had the challenge of rallying Bumbershoot's early-arrivers, and those who made it to the Southern California group's performance were jumpstarted with some infectious, '60s-fueled psych rock that drew on an eclectic pool of influences from Thailand, Cambodia, and the U.K.

Tucked away in the Southeast corner of the Seattle Center stood the softer side of Oakland, California (which is known more for hyphy movement hip-hop than it is for sweet pop): Rogue Wave.

The Gossip Spread the Word
Heads bobbed, hands clapped, and booties definitely shook as the Gossip christened Seattle's 37th annual Bumbershoot Arts and Music Festival. Playing to a small but highly enthusiastic crowd, lead singer Beth Ditto channeled her inner Aretha Franklin as she belted out dance-friendly songs from her band's latest album, Standing In the Way of Control.

Blondie See Green, The Purrs Delight
A helicopter could've spotted Blondie. Debbie Harry and Co. took Bumbershoot's mainstage in neon-green garb, complete with a matching sunhat. The snug get-up didn't stop the frontwoman from dancing seductively to the band's first song, "Call Me," and later into standout number "The Tide is High," and these new-wave vets still worked the crowd like they once did New York clubs.

New Pornographers, Spoon Added to Bumbershoot
New Pornographers, Spoon, Blondie, Steve Miller Band, and As I Lay Dying are a few of the bands that have been added to the lineup for this year's Bumbershoot festival. The now-complete lineup also includes AFI, Yellowcard, Hawthorne Heights, Lady Sovereign, Feist, A Tribe Called Quest, Metric, 3 Inches of Blood, and many others.
