Until now a pricey import, this one-song, 40-minute document of a Christmas Eve 2004 gig finds Boredoms leader Yamataka Eye taking a harder, faster path to the third eye he's been fixated on since 1999's Vision Creation Newsun. As with all things post-Vision, Super Roots #9 aims to be an assaultive drum circle and meditative drone -- this time with flashes of beauty coming via the voices of a 20-member choir, which Eye manipulates in the studio, adding the occasional shout. Unfortunately, with few dynamics to counter its tribal thunder, the song is more numbing than awe-inspiring.
