Was the problem really that the RZA wasn't wacky enough?

Are you stuck in a "booby trap"? Would you rather have a "digi snack"? Those are the baffling rhetorical questions binding the RZA's latest escapade as alter ego Bobby Digital. With gothic overtones, tinny synthesized beats, and bizarre metaphors, the Wu-Tang don is torn between awkwardly earnest uplift-the-race tracks and plodding ego massages. "If you decipher my lyrics truthfully and not critically / You'll see that I've influenced the world mentally as well as physically," he intones on "O'Day." Yes, the RZA is a legendary eccentric, but Digi Snacks is too impossibly weird.
