Mars Volta mad scientist edits his experiments.

At this point, a new Omar Rodríguez-López album sounds about as thrilling as a Law & Order rerun: Excluding Mars Volta recordings, Xenophanes is his 11th release since 2007. But there's reason to take notice this time, as the album relegates the guitarist's often-tedious sonic experiments to mere interludes. The majority of these tracks are well-drawn interstellar metal songs, featuring López spouting operatic choruses in Spanish (assisted by Mexican singer-songwriter Ximena Sariñana). The result is a listenable, more conventional version of his primary band. Though refreshing in a solo-career context, we've heard most of this stuff before.

this album is the best of Omar's solo releases in my opinion, and pretty seductive with all spanish vocals. i really dig it and would give it a 4 instead of a 3....
Spin..im sorry to say you people suck. This album is work of art from all standpoints and to say this is a 3 out of 5 is rediculous.
This is a really strong album. Knowing that any review is subjective, I cant argue with the 3 star rating. Its the reviewers opinion. My opinion is that this album is a true headphone experience. Its aggressive without losing its sense of groove. Its a perfect companion piece to both Octhedron and Los Suenos. In short, I'd give it 4 stars.
Maybe the best record i've heard this year. way to completely miss the point again SPIN.
Got something to say?
