I'm not sure there's anything to "get" about Lady Gaga, and I wouldn't call her music or act high art. As a pop artist (not the taste of the average Spin reader it would appear), she is, however, quite brilliant. She makes fun of pop music, while celebrating it, and her songs (again, for POP music) are well-written and infectious. I challenge anyone who enjoys POP music to listen to the new Fame Monster and not enjoy her adventurous lyrics and sound. I don't think I've ever gotten into a cd so quickly. I didn't find this review to be high journalism, but I appreciate anyone who is open-minded (or honest) enough to appreciate both pop and "serious" music.

Lady Gaga is an artist in her own right. I wouldn't use the word "genius" but she is definetly noticable and relevant. However, it seems image is the key factor in becoming a successful pop icon these days. Gimic's are required (Katy Perry- I Kissed A Girl, Gaga's outrageous "sex" obsession), and her song writing reflects this. I wouldn't say she is overly talented at writing, take any english major fresh out of university and ask them to use any metaphor in a page long poem, but she is noticable. Who is to say if it will work out for her in the long run? Maybe Gaga will get boring and society will move on to the next thing, or maybe she will learn how to evolve and continuously embrace the pop era she lives in. However I disagree with Spin on their opinions of both Radiohead and Gaga. (Yes, I'm talking about the Radiohead article) To say Radiohead is not one of the most influential bands of our time, while Gaga is a genious is skewed at best. Radiohead have substance and are constantly changing while Gaga is relatively flat would be a more accurate statement.
