New Stream: Wolf Parade, "Call It a Ritual"

Spencer Krug's wrenching squawk meets jerky pianos and careening guitars in a tune off the project's forthcoming record.
Wolf Parade

On a track off Wolf Parade's still-untitled forthcoming set (out June 17 via Sub Pop), the eerie qualities of frontman Spencer Krug's overpowering and ghoulish vocal tones wholly compliment the quartet's decided departure into ghost-town-saloon piano sounds and screeching, sputtering-into-the-ozone riffs.

New MP3: Aimee Mann, "Thirty One Today"

With a track tailor-made for the season finales of any number of hour-long network dramas, one of our most treasured (and oft-embittered) songwriters returns.

Aimee Mann, the queen of dour arias like "Going Through the Motions," "Deathly," and (co-written with Elvis Costello) "The Fall of the World's Own Optimist," offers up a grim portrait of third-life crisis on this, the first single of her forthcoming album, @#%&! Smilers, out June 3.

New Stream: Shy Child, "Astronaut"

With a tune off their forthcoming album Noise Won't Stop, this New York-based duo provide another careening, keytar-driven freak out.
Shy Child

With an impressive live show and a few albums worth of bombastic, exploding drums and glitchy keytar seizures, Shy Child have carved a respectable niche all their own in today's eclectic musical arena. And with "Astronaut," a tune off the project's forthcoming album Noise Won't Stop, out courtesy of Kill Rock Stars May 20, the band aren't making any exceptions.

New MP3: Flight of the Conchords, "Ladies of the World"

With a track off their HBO series and forthcoming Sub Pop debut, these comedic Kiwis pen a sexy note to earth's female population.

As any viewer of HBO's Flight of the Conchords series knows, protagonists Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement are not only musically inclined, but also devout but awkward admirers of the female populace.

New MP3: The Coathangers, "Shake, Shake"

The A-side of this all-girl quartet's forthcoming 7" maintains with silly, lo-fi garage rock grooves.

On the heels of releasing their raucous, slaphappy debut LP S/T in fall 2007, Atlanta's grrrl punkers the Coathangers return with a limited edition 7" this spring, and thankfully the winter hasn't changed a sonic trimming.

New MP3: Colin Meloy, "We Both Go Down Together"

A live, acoustic rendition of the Decemberists' 2005 song strikingly showcases the frontman's salty croon.
Colin Meloy

For hardcore fans of Portland, OR's the Decemberists, Colin Meloy Sings Live! may just be the stuff dreams are made of. The 14-song collection, out April 8 on Kill Rock Stars, documents the frontman's 2006 solo tour and features not only rarities and tunes dating back to Meloy's first band, Tarkio, but also acoustic renditions of Decemberists tunes, including the Irish-tinged folkie,"We Both Go Down Together," off 2005's Picaresque.

Here, Meloy's bare bones rendition thrusts his sea captain yodel to the forefront, delivering urgency to his storytelling knack. Simple, strumming chords set a solid base for the familiar, catchy chorus: "My love / My love / And and all my love," Meloy sings to a rapturous crowd.
