Salvador Santana’s solo debut is called Keyboard City, and as the son of Hall of Famer Carlos Santana, he probably figured that was a safer destination than, say, Guitar World. Working with Beastie Boys synthmeister Money Mark, he builds funky, appealingly lightweight electro hip-hop jams around the splurts and squiggles of a huge array of vintage keys; several tracks feature vocals as well, though Santana’s low-wattage singing never really dominates like a lead instrument. Taking after his daddy, perhaps, he seems most comfortable stationed behind his weapon of choice.
